The scope

An experiential learning intervention that would provide a positive and constructive environment for setting strategic goals for a newly established mining section of New Denmark Colliery, Anglo Coal South Africa.

The Pumalo approach:

The Pumalo team presented an experiential learning intervention incorporating participatory facilitation techniques. Input from the mining and planning engineers and assistance of the training department enabled Pumalo to create an open environment that cultivated creative contribution and effective communication.

The outcomes:

The strategy session were seen as very successful with many of the ideas of the day being implemented.

The employees identified for the new 'supa' section went on to break all previous mining and production records, almost producing as a single section equivalent production to that of the rest of the mine.

In light of this success Pumalo was invited to facilitate a similar process for the entire mine for the following year's strategic goal setting interventions. A further seven interventions were presented with similar favour and success.
