Industrial Theatre

Our Industrial Theatre offering provides clients with a powerful means of communicating a wide range of messages that can be understood and embraced by employees at every level within an organisation. We take into consideration aspects such as mental capability and the education levels of the target audience as well as the culture of both the employee and the organisation, budgetary constraints and finally the positioning of the message within the overall context of the change intervention process.

Industrial Theatre means the process of preparing a script based on the social and economic environmental factors identified by an enterprise or organisation. These factors are clarified into the theme and specific outcome of the theatre piece. The piece is developed through the Pumalo Theatre strategy into a form of physical theatre which is then rehearsed for a performance. Such a theatre piece is aligned to the strategic goals of the developmental process.

We believe that our competitive edge resides in our ability to captivate the heart of the individual, providing him or her with a mirror of successes and failures, strengths and weaknesses in relation to performance of the task required of him/her. Even more importantly, employees are left with a sense of hope in the possibility that they may overcome whatever obstacles they may face adapting to change.

The DRIEFONTEIN Division mobilisation intervention gets a facelift and an update. In keeping with the development of strategy and processes, the Industrial Theatre product at DRIEFONTEIN campus has been realigned to the prevailing emphasis on safety and productivity. MASIPHEPHE as the intervention and associated strategies are called, bring a healthy focus on safety and behaviour in the work place.

The Pumalo Industrial Theatre methodology currently enjoys a long term project in the Gold mining industry. 

The Industrial Theatre product has taken the cultural context of each division into account and designed a context - specific stage production to communicate matters of ‘values’ towards a performance culture.

Through consultation with the Team Mobilization process drivers, the then Gold Fields Academy team and mine representatives, a unique identity and story line was created for each context. To date over five thousand Gold Fields employees and even some of their families have tasted the theatre experience and many have told of how it has influenced the manner in which they understand their work opportunities on the mine.

The Pumalo Industrial Theatre product has also been used to effectively address a number of issues in the working environment.

The Pumalo Industrial Theatre product has taken the rails as we presented our methodology to the environment of PRASA and members of metro rail. We were invited to support the efforts of TFW taking into account the intentions of the program and designed a context - specific stage production to communicate notions of behavioural ‘values’ towards a desired performance culture. The piece conveyed a sence of the shared ethics and desired culture of both employees and the customer base that they relate to.

As an opening to the development program the industrial theatre piece was a great launching pad for the Total Station Managment development program, as well an exciting opportunity for Pumlao to touch the passanger rail industry of South Africa.
