Short Learning Programs and Experiential Learning Applications

Robin E Pullen from Pumalo Africa presents a number of Short Learning Programs in the form of workshops,  seminars and experiential learning applications. These are aligned to SAQA Unit Standards although not yet registered as credit-bearing short courses. (From http://www.saqa.org.za/focus/short.htm)

Specially intended to aid the soft skills and employee developmental requirement in the workplace, the Pumalo Africa short course is your just-in-time solution. Addressing core elements of established learning programs within our client environments, Pumalo Africa’s short courses, seminars and Industrial Theatre products are an accessible means of tackling a number of contexts while optimizing the experiential learning opportunity of the learner.

Short courses can be described as a type of short learning program which is either credit-bearing or non-credit bearing, depending on the purpose of the program. A credit-bearing short course contains less than 120 credits. Programs where less than 1 credit can be awarded are examples of non-credit bearing short courses.

A skills program is occupationally based and is an example of a type of short learning program where once completed will constitute credits towards a qualification registered in terms of the National Qualifications Framework. Provisioning is undertaken by a trainer provider accredited by an Education and Training Quality Assurance Body (Skills Development Act No. 97 of 1998).

Understanding Keys to Safe Leadership

Culture is "obedience to the unenforceable. It is a realm in which law, not caprice, but virtues such as duty, fairness, judgement,... hold sway. In a word, it... covers all cases of right doing where there is no one to make you do it but yourself"( John Fletcher Moulton). SAFETY is all about Leadership, of self and of others. The notion of Safety Culture has to become recognised as part of the organisational strategy of an enterprise, not merely an add on. In order to realise an effective SAFETY CULTURE we will require paradigm shifts in leadership thinking and understanding. LEADERSHIP is a critical determinant of the workplace safety performance. Here you will discover the role of LEADERSHIP in developing and maintaining the safety climate and its impact on sustainability. Robin will expose TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIP and its impact on organisational safety outcomes. Download the factsheet for the safety representatives workshop.

Understanding the Lessons from the Geese

In this and Motivation 4 Momentum seminar Robin E Pullen unpacks five lessons for effective leadership that can be discovered through observation of the flying formation of the geese. Some of these include: ONE: As each goose flaps its wings it creates an “uplift” for the birds that follow. By flying in a “V” formation, the whole flock adds 70% greater flying range than if each bird flew alone. Application: People who share a common direction and sense of community can get where they are going quicker and easier because they can move on the upward energy of one another.

Some course outcomes include: You will be able to demonstrate the ability to plan, lead, organise and control; the ability to organise and execute group activities.

Hazard Identification and Control

In this Motivation 4 Momentum seminar Robin E Pullen presents the five levels of leadership, as made famous by Patrick Lencioni. Here you can expect to discover these leadership traits and how they can fuel a business plan that is ‘built to last’.

Lessons from Rudi Guiliani on leadership

In this seminar and Motivation 4 Momentum program Robin E Pullen aims to take the individual and his/her team through the leadership lessons that Guiliani had to learn on his feet. He was the mayor of New York City from 1994 to 2001. Today he is regarded as one the world’s greatest mayors and provides opportunity for you to learn from his experience of leading the city through the September 11, 2001 attacks.

WHAT REALLY WORKS: Lessons from ten years of organisational research

This seminar draws on ten years of organisational research through 160 successful businesses of 200 well-established management practices as they were employed over a ten year period. Here Robin E Pullen unpacks these exhaustive and yet very interesting findings. The outcomes of the research described so many of the key factors that contribute to achieving business success. With all the options out there it did not really show a single set of laws that would guarantee success. Find out “What does matter” in this motivation 4 momentum seminar about the HBR formula for business success.

Transformational leadership: lessons from stratified systems theory author Dr Elliot

Here Robin E Pullen will discuss the research article by author, Dr Jacques Elliot, that has revealed a single specific leader competency which, when matched with a specific characteristic of his or her role, will significantly improve the current rate of success. Elliot proposes that there is a level of complexity which characterises each role in an organization. Research suggests that there is one imperative for organizing successful transformation: assign a leader who has the capacity in a role at least one strata higher than the role responsibility for the transformation. This motivation 4 momentum seminar will help the participant identify their personal management complexity and develop steps to achieving more frequent moments of success.

The Mindful and Engaged workshop

When people are under stress, surges in the stress hormones adrenaline and cortisol strongly affect their reasoning and cognition. At low levels, cortisol facilitates thinking and other mental functions, so well-timed pressure to perform and targeted critiques of subordinates certainly have their place. The 'Mindful and Engaged' workshop has been designed to address the following priorities:

  • PEAK PERFORMANCE ZONE: discovering the 'zone' in which an individual can best operate and
understanding how to revisit that place more often.
  • PEAK PERFORMING MIND: understanding the humanmind and regaining ameasure of self-control.
  • FIT FOR STRESS: developing a personal resilience to stress.
